  • Based on your prior online  searches and click history, algorithms begin to anticipate the kind of information you are seeking.  Both Google and Facebook provide "personalized" searches and news-streams, thereby limiting your exposure to a variety of information sources and viewpoints. 
  • A tribal identity arises online with users of similar beliefs, which can result in less tolerance for others of dissimilar views. 
  • Resultant echo chambers (produced by Twitter, Facebook and Google) reinforce the user's world view and ideology.  
  • In recent history Twitter and Facebook have become prime conduits for fake news.
