The Research Process

Research Tips

Spend time on each of the research stages. Your work will build upon itself.

Look beyond the first result or source you find. Ask yourself, is this the best information source I could use or could I find another source that's better? If not, don't settle. Keep looking.

Take notes throughout your research so it's easy to pick back up where you left off.

  • Keep track of the search terms you used. Which ones worked? Which ones didn't?
  • What search tools have you used?
  • What new ideas about your topic learned through your searches are worth exploring further?
  • What resources do you want to return to and look at more closely?
  • How can you use the sources you've found to support your ideas?

Ask for help if you get stuck.
